Steps to Read a Birth Chart Using Vedic Astrology

1. Check the Ascendant (Lagna)
   Identify the Lagna sign, its lord, dignity, house placement, aspects and conjunctions.
2. Assess the Lagna Lord
   Its strength tells you a lot about personality, vitality, life direction and overall chart support.
3. Study the Moon
   Check Moon sign, house, nakshatra, dignity, aspects and conjunctions. This shows the mind, emotions and psychological patterns.
4. Analyze the Sun
   Examine confidence, authority, father, status, vitality and self-expression.
5. Evaluate All 12 Houses
   Start with the houses most relevant to the question:
   • 1st — self/personality
   • 2nd — wealth/family/speech
   • 3rd — courage/skills
   • 4th — home/mother/property
   • 5th — education/children/creativity
   • 6th — disease/debt/enemies/service
   • 7th — marriage/partnership
   • 8th — transformation/inheritance/occult

   • 11th — gains/income

6. Study the House Lords

   • Other relevant planetary combinations
9. Examine Nakshatras

10. Study Divisional Charts (Vargas)
    Use the appropriate varga for the subject:

    • D12: Parents
    • D20: Spirituality
11. Check Dashas
    Start with Vimshottari Dasha. Identify the Mahadasha and Antardasha planets and judge their natal placement, lordship, strength and house connections.
12. Check Transits (Gochar)
    Compare current transits—especially Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu—with the natal chart and Moon.
13. Synthesize Everything
    Don’t predict from one placement alone. Combine: House + House Lord + Planet + Sign + Nakshatra + Aspects + Yogas + Dasha + Transit.

Lagna → Lagna Lord → Moon → Sun → Houses → House Lords → Planets → Yogas → Nakshatras → Vargas → Dashas → Transits → Final prediction

The key principle is: never judge a placement in isolation. A planet’s house, lordship, dignity, strength, aspects and dasha activation all modify its results.
