What are some mind-blowing facts about Twitter?

Twitter is an American microblogging and social networking service on which users post and interact with messages known as “tweets”. Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams launched in July of that year. Registered users can post, like, and retweet tweets, but unregistered users can only read them. In this post, I’m going to share some of the interesting & unknown facts about ‘Twitter’.

What Are Some Unknown & Interesting Facts About Twitter?

1. Twitter’s original name was twttr. The team finally settled on the name ‘twitter, which means ‘chirps from birds’ in essence ‘a short burst of inconsequential information’.
2. Twitter was founded in 2006 and for the first 3 years as a company Twitter made a total of ‘zero’ dollars in revenues.
3. Twitter has over 65 million tweets everyday and that averages 750 tweets per second.
4. 135,000 Twitter accounts are registered every day.
5. Twitter is mobile-centric and 65% of its advertising earnings are from ads on tablets and smartphones.
6. Twitter did not invent the #Hashtag. Hashtags date back to 1988 when people communicated via chat rooms called Internet Relay Chats (IRCs).
7. Twitter is banned in China.
8. Twitter’s first-ever tweet was by co-founder Jack Dorsey.
9. Twitter launched verified accounts after former St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa complained about a user pretending to be him.
